The message "MySQL server has gone away" means that your MySQL server is not accessible for ILIAS anymore. Maybe becaused it crashed due to some reasons. This is most certainly not an ILIAS issue.
And MySQL 5.7 is not officially supported yet (see http://www.ilias.de/docu/goto_docu_pg_75024_367.html).
