Dear all,
the
Technical Board of the ILIAS Society is elected by the general assembly of members and is appointed to push general improvements of the system regarding various cross cutting concerns. This, however, tends to be an overwhelming task for a committee of five volunteers and we are looking for support with this general task.
A number of activities we regularly encounter in our day to day work revolve around having and spreading expertise in some field of knowledge. E.g., we are asked to give an opinion regarding some specific technical question by some developer; we feel the need to assess some feature request, code change or other contribution regarding the cross cutting concerns we are tasked to take care of; we would like disseminate some knowledge in our community. Even if we had enough available knowledge in every field to fulfill these tasks (which we don't), the available time simply caps the effort we can put into these activities. Since we know that there are many people in the community with a huge variety and amount of knowledge, we are looking to appoint "Experts" in various fields to help us with these tasks. To verify the general concept, we hereby are looking for "UI/UX-Experts" to help us improve the usability of ILIAS.
There is much important expertise in the ILIAS community to which we would like to give more visibility. As a comittee with high visibility in the community we want to lead by example here and would be happy to share some of our influence and recognition with knowledgeable people.
As an "UI/UX-Expert" your tasks will be:
* Help us with your knowledge to answer questions or find opinions.
* Inspect new or old contributions regarding UI/UX.
* Be available for questions from the community.
* Give lectures or workshops to spread your knowledge.
As an "UI/UX-Expert", you will get:
* The opportunity to play a major and visible role in improving ILIAS in your field of knowledge.
* A short connection to the Technical Board and our decision making processes.
* A title and a nice certificate to prove your credentials before and after your appointment.
Please understand that this is only the first step in establishing the role of "Experts" regarding cross cutting concerns in our community. We might have the need to define processes more closely, codify the role in some more definite way or even find the general idea to be misguided. Also, we won't be able to go into too much detail how the role should be executed, we will need to find that out with the people that are applying.
Finally, we are looking for volunteers for the role, just as we are volunteering as members of the TB. It will help a lot if the application is backed by an employer, both ideally and with ressources, e.g. time or occasional travel expenses.
If you are still interested to be an "UI/UX-Expert" on behalf of the Technical Board, please send your application to
tb@lists.ilias.de that outlines in some sentences how you would like to help. As always, also feel free to ask questions or give us feedback,
Best regards!
