it's predictable that a stepwise upgrade to ILIAS 7 will differ to an direct upgrade from 5.3 to 7 - at least to the DB content due to different versions of the DB update steps #5453 and #5513 in ./setup/sql/dbupdate_05.php in 'release_6' respective 'release_7'!
Such differences should not happen ever imho, but: they exist.
I can't judge the criticality of the variations - this must be done by the creator of these steps (..).
