given that, as always, I advise you to make a total backup before making an upgrade of this type.
I use Centos 7 and I went from ilias 5.3 and php 7.0 to Ilias 5.4.19  with PHP 7.4, honestly I only had to fix a little something on the theme (custom, if you use delos by default I havent encountered any problems) and on some parts of translation eng to ita.
