ILIAS Developers: Plural rules

As far as I know there isn't such mechanism or any rule in ILIAS. Rarely the language variables are using singular/plural forms. Another patter used in ILIAS is to provide only one language variable that should work with all numbers for example "x item(s)" or "x Eintrag/Einträge". This might be less convenient to read but much simpler to implement technically. Other cases in ILIAS only use the plural, e.g. "Sind Sie sicher, dass folgende Objekte gelöscht werden sollen:" (only one item may follow).

Since I personally only work in English and German, I do not know if there are easy and valid options to do this correctly beside the media wiki approach.
