Administration - Installation - Core: Mail issue

Dear all -

Forgive me if this question has been answered before, and I simply didn't find it: I have properly configured the mailer connection which is proven by the test mails being sent.

But mails are not sent from any user's mailbox - at least do not appear in the recipient's inbox or spam. They do however appear in the sender's sent items folder.

Where and how can I dig deeper?
